Are you drawn to tales from the Middle Ages, of merchants and traders and power struggles, do you relish the intrigue and romance of those daring times? Then head for Brugge – a love story awaits.

Historium Brugge opens this weekend promising to transport us back in time to 1435 in an experience that will touch all the senses. I’m intrigued. The mercantile city was at the height of its powers, the harbour busy with trading vessels from north and south, Duke Philip the Good of Burgundy ruled, Flemish painter Jan van Eyck was working on his panel Madonna with Canon Joris Van der Paele. Will I smell the oil paints as he works, hear the sounds of the city? – I’ll let you know.

Historium Brugge is situated in the BeeldĀ  Markt (above) in the centre of the city. Details here: http://www.historium.be
