#frifoto – Close-Up

Close-up flora La Gomera

The Canary Islands of La Gomera and Tenerife have been in the news lately battling forest fires.  Visiting La Gomera last year I was enchanted by the rugged landscape  (it can’t be an easy place to fight fires) and the wonderful flora.  At the islands heart is an area of ancient laurel forest which dates from the Tertiary era millions of years ago.  Our offerings for FriFotos this week are a tribute to the rich flora of La Gomera.  They were taken at the excellent Juego de Bolas Visitor’s centre which has a collection of  native plants.
